Popliqo vs Runway: Which AI Video Generator Is Better for Social Ad Creative?

Ad creative is a volume game with a hard budget. You need enough variants to find a winner, and a cost per variant you can defend when someone asks why last month's spend went where it did.

Runway approaches that with a metered subscription and a full production suite. Popliqo approaches it with fixed templates and per-generation credits. The interesting comparison is not which one looks better — it is what each costs per finished variant.

Disclosure: Popliqo is our own product. This is a comparison we publish, not an independent review. Treat our claims the same way you would treat the other side's — we link every competitor fact to its official source so you can check us.

The short answer

For producing many variants to a known budget, Popliqo is the more predictable buy: a template's credit cost is published, nothing renews, and failures are refunded. For finishing work — grading, upscaling, animating a still, handing a deliverable to a client — Runway is a production tool and Popliqo is not even in the category.

Pick Popliqo if…

  • You are producing variants at volume and need per-variant cost to be a known quantity
  • Nobody on the team wants to write prompts to get a usable cut
  • You would rather pay per generation than hold a monthly seat

Pick Runway if…

  • You need to finish, grade or upscale footage, not just generate it
  • You want to route across several frontier models under one contract
  • You need team seats, brand kits and shared projects

QuestionPopliqoRunway

What it actually is

Popliqo

A catalogue of published ComfyUI workflows that produce a finished vertical clip from the slots you fill.

source

Runway

A subscription creative suite: generation models plus editing, upscaling and asset tooling around them.

source

Pricing model

Popliqo

One-time credit packs. Nothing renews, and credits are spent only when you generate.

source

Runway

Monthly or annual subscription with a metered credit allowance. Individual plans run Free $0, Standard $15/mo, Pro $35/mo, Max $95/mo (annual billing is about 20% cheaper).

sourcechecked 2026-09-18

How credits are consumed

Popliqo

A fixed number of credits per generation, published on the template before you commit.

source

Runway

By model, duration and resolution — its flagship model bills 12 credits per second of video, so a 5-second clip costs 60 credits.

sourcechecked 2026-09-18

Unused allowance

Popliqo

Credits stay in your balance until you spend them. There is no renewal that expires them.

Runway

On Standard and Pro the monthly allowance does not roll over — it resets after each billing date. Only Max carries one month forward.

When a generation fails

Popliqo

Refunded automatically, recorded against that generation so it cannot be double-applied.

Runway

Handled under the vendor's own policy.

source

Prompt engineering required

Popliqo

No. Templates define the inputs; most expose no prompt field.

Runway

Yes for generation, though the suite's presets and controls reduce how much wording matters.

Editing and finishing

Popliqo

None. You get a finished clip to download — there is no timeline, no upscaling, no motion brush.

Runway

The core of the product: editing, upscaling to 4K on paid plans, brand kits and audio tooling.

sourcechecked 2026-09-18

Team features

Popliqo

No seats or shared workspaces. Credits sit on one account.

Runway

Separate Team & Enterprise tiers; individual plans cap concurrent projects (3 on Standard, 5 on Pro, 10 on Max) and brand kits.

sourcechecked 2026-09-18

Watermark

Popliqo

None.

Runway

No watermarks from Standard upward; the free plan is limited to a selection of models.

sourcechecked 2026-09-18

API access

Popliqo

A partner API with an API key; templates created through it stay in draft until an admin reviews them.

Runway

A separate API offering, billed independently of the individual plans.

sourcechecked 2026-09-18

Output shape

Popliqo

Vertical short-form by design; template fixes the length and aspect ratio (usually 9:16 MP4).

Runway

Generation plus whatever you assemble in the editor — the output shape is your decision.

Cost per clip

What a finished clip actually costs

Subscription allowances and credit packs are not directly comparable, so we convert both to the same unit: the cost of one finished clip. Every input below is shown, so you can recompute it yourself.

Popliqo — live credit rates

Read from the live token-package endpoint when this page rendered. These packs do not expire and do not renew.

Starter270 credits$4.50$0.02/credit
Creator990 credits$29.00$0.03/credit
Pro2,610 credits$69.00$0.03/credit

At the best rate of $0.02 per credit, a published template costs between $0.05 (kirkify.lol, 3 credits) and $2.33 (Comic Finger Swipe Transition, 140 credits) per generation.

By use case

Who wins, job by job

Shipping 20 ad variants a week

Popliqo

Templates remove the per-variant creative decision, and the credit cost of each variant is known before you generate. At that volume the difference between a priced generation and an unpriced re-roll is the whole budget conversation.

Finishing a deliverable for a client

Runway

Grading, upscaling, motion control and asset management are what Runway is built for. Popliqo has none of them — it hands you a clip and stops.

Keeping cost per variant predictable

Popliqo

Nothing renews and nothing expires. With a metered allowance, unused capacity on Standard or Pro is capacity you paid for and did not use, because the monthly balance resets.

Trying several frontier models

Runway

One subscription routes across its own Gen series and third-party models. Popliqo runs the workflow a template author published — the model behind it is not yours to pick.

Handing work between teammates

Runway

Seats, shared projects and brand kits are team features. Popliqo credits belong to a single account.

Where each one loses

The parts that do not favour us

Where Runway is genuinely better

  • It is a production suite, not a generator. Upscaling, editing, brand kits and audio have no equivalent here.
  • Model choice under one contract: routing across several frontier models without signing anything new.
  • Team and enterprise tiers exist, with seats and shared brand assets. Popliqo has no team concept at all.
  • The free plan costs nothing and the paid tiers remove watermarks, so evaluation is cheap.

Where Popliqo falls short

  • No editing, grading, upscaling or motion control. If your workflow needs any of it, you are bolting a second tool onto Popliqo.
  • Templates only — there is no prompt box for a shot the catalogue does not cover.
  • No team seats or shared workspaces.
  • Generated files are kept for 7 days.
  • One account holds the credits, which is awkward if several people need to spend from the same pool.

Method

How this comparison was put together

  • The credit-pack prices on our side are read from the live token-package endpoint and the per-template credit costs from the live template catalogue, both fetched when this page renders. Change a price in the product and this page follows.
  • Runway's plan prices, credit allowances and per-clip credit costs were read from its official pricing page and are quoted with that date. Annual figures are the vendor's own discounted monthly equivalents.
  • The cost-per-clip table above is arithmetic, not opinion: monthly price divided by (monthly credits ÷ credits per clip). Every input is shown so you can recompute it — and if Runway changes a price, the table is wrong until we update it, which is why the date is printed next to the numbers.
  • We compare one finished clip to one finished clip. We do not compare a template's finished vertical cut against a raw model render, or the reverse.
  • We do not publish benchmark numbers we did not measure. Anything we do measure is published with its input, its wall-clock time and the credits each side actually consumed — never as an unsourced claim.
  • Something here wrong or stale? Tell us and we will correct it. A comparison page with unverifiable numbers is worth less than no page at all.

FAQ

Questions people ask before switching

How does Popliqo's cost per clip compare with Runway's?

The table above does the arithmetic with Runway's own published numbers: at the Standard tier, its monthly allowance divided by 60 credits per 5-second flagship clip gives roughly ten clips a month, so the effective cost lands near $1.50 per clip on monthly billing and near $1.20 on annual billing. On Popliqo you pay a per-template credit cost that is published before you generate, from credit packs that never expire. Which is cheaper depends on your volume; the point is that you can compute both, and we show the inputs.

Is Runway worth the subscription?

If you need the suite — editing, upscaling, brand kits, team seats — yes, because nothing here replaces it. If you only need finished vertical clips at volume, you would be paying a monthly subscription for a fraction of what it does, and the unused allowance does not roll over on the cheaper tiers.

Can I use Popliqo and Runway together?

That is a common setup and an honest one: generate variants here, then take the winner and finish it there. Nothing in either product prevents it.

Do I need a prompt to use Popliqo?

No. Templates expose slots — images, video, text, a draggable region, batch image sets — and the workflow itself is fixed by the template author.

What happens if a generation fails?

Credits are refunded automatically. The refund is tied to that specific generation, so it cannot be applied twice or silently skipped.
